valle gran rey is situated in the south of one of the lovely canary islands la gomera. in a valley next to some nice beaches and surrounded by high mountain walls you can find this lovely township. the place is full of hippie-style and every evening a few percussion beat the drums to accompany the sun while setting and play with fire after dusk.

untitled-1844when you visit this place you will hear german everywhere and you might ask yourself if you are actually in spain or if this place officially belongs to germany. thousands of german travellers come here and choose this place to make it their holiday destination over and over again. but not only tourists also expats are mostly from the country i am born in.

well usually i don’t like to be surrounded by my fellow countrymen, in particular when i travel. but sometimes germans have great ideas and bring the good stuff around the world! and thats what happens here: all the old hippie generation expats bring the organic food and vegan lifestyle to this little settlement. actually i felt like home while shopping in organic food shop and eating in a place where they know the difference between vegetarian and vegan. cause restaurants aren´t usually quit veggie friendly in here.

so here i show you what i explored. german-gomera-fusion.

bio organic shops

Biofinca Lomo del Riego

here you can get fruits and veggies grown in their own organic garden. mango, eggplant, papaya, capsicum, bananas and many more. in the little wooden house they also offer plant milk, spreads, nut butter, bread and other grocery.

tienda ansiaría

this nice little shop is situated in vueltas the part of valle gran rey close to the port. you will find a variety of organic food like tofu, cereals, bread, plant based milk, coffee, soy products and spices. but they also offer health products and vitamins, as well as clothing.

there are a few more shops out there and some shops do have organic products next to their usual supermercado stuff. besides that you will find some fruterias where a good variety of fruits and veggies lacal grown is on offer.

restaurant

noah´s ark

a cool restaurant with good music and lovely people. they offer everything a vegan traveler is graving for. they also have free wifi. at daytime you can vitalize your body with fresh fruit juices and smoothies or get a good coffee with a piece of cake. they also have lunch oder dinner there and enjoyable vegan fresh made tapas. the quiche is really yumm and it was perfekt made that i could hardly believe that its vegan!

a nice place to visit

a very special place you should not miss to see is the fruit garden argaga. this is a tropical fruit garden build by a german couple. they started to put up terraces with out any machines in 1985. over the years a variety of different plants, some unknown and from all over where cultivated in this garden. it is organic, so no chemicals are sprayed in here. nut trees, 13 different banana typs, tamarind, two different avocado, kumquat, guava, papaya, berries and many many more interesting things are growing here.untitled-1953

since 1994 they give a tour for visitor in where they show this beautiful work and let them taste a few fruits, some you might never heard of. the fruit garden is open every tuesday and friday from 10am to 4pm. i was joining the guide and learnd so much cool stuff about fruits and history and gardening. did you know that there is a fruit called black-pudding-fruit? i tasted it and it does not quit taste like schokopudding.

have you been to la gomera? what was your favourite spot? share your wisdom, i would live to read your comment!

black pudding is the english expression for ‘Blutwurst’ . Blutwurst in England sieht aber eher schwarz aus als rot. Sehr wahrscheinlich schmeckt diese frucht eher nach Blutwurst als nach Schokopudding. Sorry if this is disappointing for all Vegies!

    • haha warscheinlich solltest du sie selber mal probieren um das herrauszufinden 😉
