i am happy to present you the interview with camille gaudin here! i met her in in the beautiful country of cambodia, while she was working on her ECO-SOURCING-PROJECT. with lots of passion she showed me the videos she made. i like the way she is creating a sensibility for the people and products she is showing. especially i loved the video about the coconut oil from cocokhmer, that i just bought in one of the handmade stores in cambodia.

i travelled to one of the islands in the south of cambodia with camile and it was a nice exchange and learning with her.

hello camille, tell me about yourself!

i am from toulouse in france, working on sustainability projects in a local organization. i was born in lyon and moved to toulouse with my family when i was 8. then i studied 4 years in bordeaux and 1 year in nantes. my subject is business administration and i specialized on marketing and innovation. i did two internships in paris, and one internship in the region of milan in italy. i also specialized on sustainability management and corporate social responsibility. thanks to my professional experiences.

tell me about your travels! wich places have you been to?

i had the chance to travel with my family in many countries. we went to south africa, madagascar, brazil, canada, turkey… it definitively gave me a taste for travels and for adventures, such as traveling by myself.

traveling 6 months on my own was an amazing experience, particularly in southeast asia where i discovered fascinating countries.

after my journey i came back to toulouse where i am working since december. my job concerns responsible procurement and sustainability projects. i am fascinated about eco-design and the challenge of applying creativity and innovation for sustainable development.

tell me more about your ECO-SOURCING-PROJECT! what is that project about?

the ECO-SOURCING-PROJECT is based on a six months trip in southeast asia to bring out local initiatives involving the development and recognition of local expertise with the sustainable management of biodiversity and its resources. the objective was to meet local producers, social entrepreneurs, ngo´s and organisations like that  to promote their initiatives by making videos about their work. for me it was also important to learn and get inspiration from those initiatives. while i visited the organisation i was sometimes helping in the farms in order to get a better understanding about the processes and their way of doing sustainable agriculture. i stayed two weeks with an organic and fair-trade coffee producer in lao, and few days with an organic tea producer in the region of chiang rai in north thaïland, for example. being part of the process gave me a real insight of how the products are made.

the format i choose for my project is video because it’s a powerful way to communicate and to promote positive change. my intention is to present inspiring initiatives through these videos to show sustainable produced materials and how social entrepreneurs can have positive impacts on local communities and the environment.

this sounds very interesting! how did you get the idea to start this project?

i´ve got the idea during my internship in a fashion house in paris. i was managing sustainability projects and i really enjoyed to work on the responsible sourcing of materials such as silk and cotton. that’s why i wanted to discover the story behind these materials.

it started my trip in february last year when i left for southeast asia. but the prepareation for the project, research and connecting took me 3 months before i went to the field and met responsible producers in asia.

you did a great job here! what is your vision with it?

my vision through this project is to make connections between those local producers and companies, but also to educate consumers about the origin of products they buy. giving an insight in the production process to help creating awareness in the customers is the main mission here.

such  a good intension! so what are your plans for the future?

i would like to keep the ECO-SOURCING-PROJECT alive by developing a social business that acts in the field of responsible sourcing. my objective will be to advise companies on how to improve their sourcing of raw materials in a sustainable way. the mission will be also to help companies to initiate and develop partnerships with responsible and small producers in developing countries.i am at the very beginning right now, but i hope that this project will soon become reality.

thank you for this interview, your work is very inspiring and i hope your dreams with it will work out well. i wish you all the best!
