travel for me is about one thing: live life to discover. nature, people, places. getting experiences in all layers of live and collecting ultimately memories – this is the stuff of existence that you will take with you always. nothing beats experience, opportunity… a thirst of knowledge.
who wants to be sitting in a gloomy room when the sun is shining out there? not me, and if you are reading this, not you either.
my travel addiction started when i first came to new zealand. like the name of the country it was a new land in the ocean of my life to discover. i chose to travel to the other end of the world to… well i don´t really know what i was looking for. but what i found was more than i could imagine. i did fall in love with this country and it taught me so much. despite of the beauty of this piece of earth and the very lovely people, i found a new layer of myself. after 8 month i returned to germany and haven’t been the same person than before i left. going through so many different situations that i never experienced before in my life made me learn how to manage things on my own. trying to find a job to get some money for traveling, working on farms and in gardens in exchange for food and hostage and living in peoples houses, get in touch with locals, hiking multiple days in the wild, living in a car for month…
after i came back i started studying but as much as i can i use time off to travel. more and more i feel comfortable in different cultures, observing the new surroundings, understanding peoples way of living, and try to learn the most of what i see. everyone can teach you some thing.
and i have to say i am always very lucky and people are friendly and interested in me as much as i am curious about them. just the other day, i was in a situation where i did not know where to sleep. my plan was to stay at the airport overnight but unfortunately it was so small that they shut it down at nighttime. so i took the last bus at 11pm to the next town and ask the driver where i could stay. he was very friendly and offered me to stay in his house after he finish his tour. i was happy that he host me for one night and gave me food. the other morning he drove me back to the airport. very kind. of course it can be risky to go to someones house you don’t know, but i felt it wasall right. there are always people around who’s first intension is a good one.of course not everyone wants to rob or rape you when they see you need help.
the most important thing i learned is to trust and be in the moment. every situation can be solved and there is always a way. if something went not as you thought – breath, smile and see what happens. once i feel save in my self i feel save everywhere and my intuition is guiding me a lot. when i go with this flow and don´t have any expectation my travel is the best.
i also try to see places where not to many tourism is and explore off the beaten path to observe true beauty of the county. being in nature, moving free, living mindful and being grateful for what i get and give what i can give.
so what about you? there is no time like the present to be spontaneous- take the opportunity to sleep under the stars, witness the sunrise, travel off for new adventure and remind yourself what an amazing privilege it is to be alive, to think, to enjoy the world around you. so break free and go, what are you waiting for?
